The trail is a 9 mile
singletrack loop that is unidirectional and more technically challenging
than most other locations across Texas. It boasts multiple stairstep
climbs and descents, rocky terrain, cactus and mesquite and loose limestone
fragments that make traction difficult in some locations. Even experienced
riders will have to dismount on this course the first time they attempt
to ride it. These are motocross trails, so be on the lookout for dirt
bikes sharing the trail with you. Unless you are completely absorbed
in your ride you should hear them long before you see them, so there
should be little problem with getting out of their way if they are on
the trail with you. Just watch out.
The trail is recommended for experienced Intermediate riders and Advanced
riders only. The steep climbs are rewarded with some steep and quickly
run downhills. The local Ski Shores Restaurant offers some great burgers,
ice cold beer and assorted soft drinks to keep you from passing out
after completing the ride. Also, as the name implies, the restaurant
is on the shores of Lake Austin (the Lower Colorado River) and the water
is an incredible way to cool off on those hot Texas summer days after
a grueling ride through the Emma Long trails.
